Just in time for the Batteau Festival, come experience life on the James! You will also have the chance to step aboard a real batteau and try your hand at building one!

Energy (July 11, August 1)
Led by a young, dynamic, Lynchburg-native nuclear engineer, our Energy program will have you scrambling and asking the big question: “what is energy?” Is a race car traveling at 200 miles per hour energy? Is the electricity lighting your home energy? Is nuclear fission energy? To answer these questions we’ll probe one of the most important laws of nature which says energy cannot be created or destroyed. We’ll use hands-on activities in the museum to show that energy comes in many forms, is constantly changing, and always influencing our lives.

Photography (June 18, 20)
Can you imagine life before digital cameras and Instagram? Join celebrated local professional photographer, Sam Stroud, as we go back to the roots of photography: pinhole cameras. Understand the science and art behind great pictures, try out photography in its most basic form, and experience the magic of darkroom development.

Skating Physics (June 25, 27)
Think physics is boring? Think again! Find out how the sport of skateboarding is governed by the principles of gravity, centripetal force, friction, and momentum. Then put your knowledge to use in a group skating lesson.
