Square had just four volunteers each day, the museum would save more
than $40,000 each year in operating costs?
There are a variety of volunteering opportunities available at Amazement
Square, and you can pick the areas that best highlight your special
talents. Make your own schedule and give as little as three hours
per shift. |
School Tour Volunteers
Amazement Square is seeking volunteers looking to gain hands-on experience with museum education. Ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a team oriented setting. Teachers can earn recertification points, students can earn professional development credits, and anyone can gain experience by conducting school tours at the museum. Outreach Program Volunteers
Amazement Square is seeking volunteers who are looking to gain hands-on experience with special needs children. Earn recertification points, professional development hours, or gain experience by joining us in our programs with Hutcherson Early Learning Center and the Laurel Regional School. Must be available on select Mondays and Tuesdays through March 2009. Birthday Parties
Birthday party volunteers are responsible for setting up for children's
birthday parties, welcoming party guests, providing a short orientation,
and leading birthday party crafts. If you would like to make a long-term
commitment to the museum and would like to take an active leadership role
with museum guests, this position may be for you.
Exhibit Educators
Exhibit educators help museum visitors explore and understand hands-on,
interactive exhibits in eight multidisciplinary galleries.
Tour Leaders
Tour leaders are exhibit educators who will meet school or group tours
as they arrive, provide a short orientation and accompany the tour to
scheduled activities during their visit. Tour leaders are available to
answer questions and ensure a pleasant museum experience for each visitor.
Exhibit Maintenance
Exhibit maintenance volunteers will assist with exhibit preparation and
maintenance. Duties may include cleaning exhibit environments, touch-up
painting, or skilled exhibit fabrication. This is a wonderful opportunity
for creative carpenters!
Museum Helpers
Helpers will assist museum staff in various specific tasks, to be determined
and implemented by each department head. Duties may be clerical, creative,
or detailed in nature.
Program Volunteers
Program volunteers assist with the museum's regular programming during Family Fun Nights, as well as most Saturday afternoons. Volunteers are needed to interact with museum visitors, assist with set up, program facilitation, and clean up. This a great volunteer position for high school or college students!
Public Relations
Public relations volunteers will assist in the assembling and/or distribution
of promotional materials in the Lynchburg region. Volunteers for distribution
must have a valid driver's license and a mode of transportation.
Special Events
Special events volunteers participate in the museum's outreach, educational,
or fundraising events such as the Amazing Mile Children's Run, Gathering of Goddesses, Ugly Bug Ball,
and Children's Holiday Festival.
