For centuries, silver has delighted and dazzled us. It’s been used for luxury objects, everyday objects, medical instruments and supplies, photographic film, water purification, paints, circuit boards, and more. It’s been commissioned for royalty and hand-crafted for common use.
Discover Silver is an opportunity for visitors young and old to experience the beauty, artistry, creation, usage, and significance of silver in America. Step inside Paul Revere’s silversmith shop and try your hand at creating your own silver objects. Explore the intricate patterns and details found on teapots, pitchers, and other silver items. Uncover how the beautiful silver objects of the past represent modern objects of today. What role did silver play in our past? What significance does silver continue to have in our lives today? Discover the answers to these questions and more as you Discover Silver.
This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in celebration of its 70 years of sharing arts and education statewide. |
